Claude Design 2.0: Shared Usage Limits, Desktop App Support, and a Claude Code Design Skill

Claude Design shipped a major update this past week, and Chase from Chase AI argues it now makes Claude the strongest AI tool for design work, web design in particular. The update touches four areas: usage limits, where the tool lives, how design systems get created, and the editing workflow.

The video walks through each change on screen, using a landing page project (an "MCP-native agent marketplace" page) as the running example.

Usage Limits Now Come From Your Main Plan

The biggest change is usage. Claude Design no longer has its own separate usage limit. It draws from your main Claude plan, which means far more design capacity without a second quota to track. Chase shows the plan usage panel on screen: a Max (20x) plan with a current session bar and weekly limits, all shared with regular Claude usage.

Available in the Desktop App, Not Just the Web

Claude Design also got a UI refresh and a new home. It was previously web-only. It now runs inside the Claude desktop app as well. The start screen asks "What will you design today?" and offers templates for Prototype, Slides, Document, Wireframe, and Animation, with a model picker (Claude Opus 4.6 in the demo) and a design system selector built into the prompt bar.

Design Systems Can Be Created with Claude Code

The design system setup changed too. You now have two paths: create a design system inside Claude Design as before, or create one using Claude Code. The "Add a design system" dialog shows both options, including connecting to Figma or GitHub and uploading slides and assets. The Claude Code path comes with a design skill you can use directly in the terminal, so a design system can be generated and maintained from the command line.

Smoother Editing with Show Tweaks

Editing inside Claude Design works much like before: markups, comments, and edits on the canvas. Chase says the flow is smoother now, and the UI adds features like "show tweaks" so you can see the small adjustment setups directly in the interface.
